What is microblading?

This is the process of infusing pigment into the skin to simulate the appearance of natural hair. It is considered a tattoo, and permanent makeup. Although it is considered permanent makeup, it fades over time. Touch ups are suggested once a year in order yo keep the color fresh and the shape precise.

Microblading is meant to be a subtle natural enhancement, and to create fuller, more beautiful brows. It looks most natural on clients who already have semi full brow hair, and are wanting to perfect their shape. The more you have, the more natural it will appear.

Microblading heals best on young, healthy, and dry/normal skin.

Oily skin and aging skin is not recommended for microblading. Results will not heal as well, or look as natural. If you are in this category, you would be a better candidate for the combination or ombre brow.

What is Ombre Brow?

This is the proccess of infusing pigment into the skin to create a filled in look. This look has no hair strokes and is perfect for those clients that want their brows looking super good 24/7! This style looks intense at first, but heals to the most gorgeous soft powdery look. This brow works great with all skin types, and is ideal for oily or aging skin and lasts longer than microblading.

What is combination brow?

This is the best of both worlds! Combination brow is hair strokes in the front and then the rest of the brow is filled in. This is a beautiful look for all skin types and heals very soft and beautiful.

How long will my semi-permanent cosmetics last?

Cosmetic tattooing is designed to fade over time. Factors such as skin type, lifestyle, age, metabolism, and pigment color affect the longevity of the tattoo. The sun and some kinds of lighting (tanning beds) can affect the rate at which the pigments are broken down. To take care of your brows, follow the aftercare instructions and touch up your brows every 12-18 months (as needed). Touch ups are normal and expected for permanent cosmetics.

Please note that final results may vary and cannot be guaranteed due to the nature of skin and how it heals. A follow up appointment is recommended 6-10 weeks after your initial session so we can asses you pigment retention and make any changes necessary.

What factors will affect my semi permanent cosmetics?

Skin: Increased oil production can cause hair strokes to blur and heal lighter and powdery.

Smoking: Smokers may notice that their Semi-Permanent Cosmetics will fade faster

Anemia and Iron Deficiency: Your body will absorb iron based pigments more quickly.

Sun Exposure: Increased exposure to the sun will cause premature fading. You will want to use a special sunscreen for your Semi-Permanent Cosmetics (Color Guard on Amazon is amazing!)

Age and Metabolism. The Faster your metabolism the faster the pigment will fade.

Excessive Bleeding: Excessive bleeding during your procedure will greatly affect how your body retains pigment. While this is not entirely in our control, it is important that you follow before care instructions to help minimize bleeding. This includes avoiding blood thinning medications, alcohol, and caffeine 24 hours before your procedure.

Do semi permanent cosmetics hurt?

Topical 5% Lidocaine is used throughout the procedure to make you comfortable . Pain tolerance varies from client to client, and some clients feel a slight discomfort. Having the procedure during your menstrual cycle may increase your sensitivity.

You cannot receive permanent cosmetics if you are:

Pregnant/breastfeeding

Although there is no medical evidence that this service would have any effect on an unborn child, we don’t know for sure. We would rather err on the side of caution and have you come back after the baby is born and you are no longer nursing.

Currently using Accutane, or have used Accutane within the past year

Topical steroids thin the skin. Depending on the stage your skin is at, it may be too fragile for the procedure. You should get clearance from your doctor before considering PMU.

Have a freshly tanned/sunburned face

Are on blood thinning medications or antibiotics

This will increase bleeding and affect the implantation of pigment as well as increase the healing time.

Are currently undergoing cancer treatment

Must be off Chemo or Radiation for 6 months

How should I prepare for my appointment?

If you have reference pictures, please feel free to bring these to your appointment. Along with the pencil or powder you are currently using.

If you tint your brows you will want to do so 72 hours before your appointment.

You must not use Retin-A near the brow area 2 weeks before or after the procedure.

You will need to avoid water for 7 -10 days after! This includes excessive sweating, pools, lakes, salt water, and extreme sun exposure, so plan your vacations accordingly!

No Botox, fillers, Microdermabrasion, chemical peels or anything of the like for at least 2 weeks prior to your procedure, and also two weeks after.

Avoid doing these before your procedure:

Doing any of the following will cause excessive bleeding and hinder your final result:

Do not work out the day of your appointment.

You should not take any medications or supplements that may thin your blood (unless prescribed by a doctor) such as Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Vitamin E, Fish oil, diet pills/fat burners, ect. 24-48 hours before or immediately after your procedure.

Do not drink alcohol within 24 hours of your procedure.

Avoid caffeine for 12 hours before your procedure. (Caffeine increases blood flow and will effect your healed results)

What can I expect immediately after my appointment?

Within the following hours after your appointment, the pigment in the skin will darken, making the brows look more bold than they will heal due to the oxidation in the surface layer of your skin. Your brows may also appear warmer in color. This is normal! The ink will look dark and warm the first few days as it oxidizes in the skin, and will go back to normal. You can expect the brows to heal 20-30% lighter than they were immediately after your appointment.

Around day 3-4, you may notice light scabbing and flaking on the treated area. This is normal! Please refrain from picking at the brows. Doing so will result in loss of pigment in those areas. Once all the flaking is complete (typically around day 10), the brows will appear lighter. Brows may appear spotty or patchy until they have finished healing entirely. You may notice that some areas may appear very light or even appear to have lost pigment entirely after they have peeled. The epidermis will be thicker, causing muting, hiding or diffusing of pigment underneath. The epidermis will normalize over the next 4-6 weeks and the pigment will return to the skin in it’s healed color.

At 4-6 weeks, your brows will be fully healed. Whatever pigment that does not return will be addressed at your touch up appointment. At this appointment, we will asses your retention, touch up the spots that didn’t stick, and adjust the pigment color to give you darker, bolder brows if you would prefer! Once the brows have healed from your touch up appointment, you will have beautiful, full brows for 12-36 months!

What is my aftercare?

Following the given aftercare is crucial to obtain the best results! The following aftercare will be discussed in detail at your appointment. All needed aftercare items will be provided to you!

Keep dry (besides washing) until completely healed AKA no peeling or scabbing left! Usually around 10 days.

Clients still need to keep them dry in the shower. (no steamy ones for a few days either!), Steamy hot showers will cause the pores to open and scabs to soften, so be extra cautious. Avoid the water, especially shampoo and conditioner running down.. that will cause discoloration!

Cleanse morning and night for 7 days with the provided cleanser. (Make sure to wash outside of the shower, so you can make sure to be extra gentle. Wash with cool water and pat dry with a clean paper towel.

Apply a rice-sized amount of balm to the brows 3x a day for 2 weeks with a q-tip. If you’re oily, only apply it twice a day. The brows should be lightly coated, not goopy.

Save extra cleanser and balm for your touch up appointment, you should have enough for both!

No excessive sweating

No steam room, pool, hot tub, ocean, swimming, etc.

Do not touch, pick, rub, or scratch the brows. Avoid sleeping on your face.

Do not pick the scabs or flakes as they come off, this will remove the pigment and lead to patchiness. Let it happen and trust the process!

You may wear makeup around the brows, but nothing directly over or around them for 2 weeks. Once ALL the flaking has stopped, you may fill in any little patches with a pencil if needed until your touch up.

Avoid direct sun exposure for 2 weeks. If extended sun exposure is happening, you must wear a large hat to protect the brows as they heal.

No anti-aging or acne products on the brows EVER (anything with Retinol, Glycolic Acid, Salicylic Acid, etc.) This will cause fading very quickly!

Do I need a touch up appointment?

Yes! All Permanent Cosmetic procedures require 2 sessions. During your 4-8 week follow-up we can assess your pigment retention and make any adjustments needed. This follow-up also increases the longevity of your Semi-Permanent Cosmetics.

Do I need a consultation before getting semi permanent cosmetics?

If you have any questions, don’t know which technique is best for you, or are unsure if permanent cosmetics are for you, you can book a 30 minute consultation where I can answer any further questions you may have and map you out so you will be able to better see what shape would best for you and your bone structure.
